If you're a Symbian fan and want to take a look at the next interface you're in luck. A video preview of Symbian's S^4 interface is floating around.
Nokia recently submitted a new proposal for Symbian UIs to the Foundation's open community. Now comes a video preview of the Symbian S^4 interface. The new interface looks familiar for a touchscreen phone, with separate panels for widgets, etc. There is nothing really new here, but it's interesting.

Symbian is now open source

The Symbian Foundation has opened up its source code so all developers can now contribute. The move will allow developers to contribute to the development of the platform. This move was probably necessary if Symbian wants to compete with Google's Android OS.
Because it is open source, Symbian can now be installed on any compatible device for FREE. This should help expand Symbian's reach worldwide. Symbian is still the world leader but the competition is coming on strong....read more

Nokia 5700 running BlackBerry OS

Check out this video of a Nokia 5700 smartphone running BlackBerry OS 4.6. Who knows how they got this to run, but they did. If you just look at a still shot it could be fake, but this video seems to indicate that it is in fact, real.
The video shows that some guy ported the BlackBerry Pearl 8220's build of OS 4.6 to this Nokia 5700 and got it to work. Why would anyone want to do this? Your guess is as good as mine....read more

Nokia sues Apple over 10 iPhone patent infringements

Nokia is suing Apple claiming the iPhone maker is infringing on Nokia's patents with every iPhone that has shipped. According to Nokia the patents have been licensed by 40 other companies but Apple refused to pay.

Google has finally added support for Push Gmail to its Google Sync product. Previously you could sync your calendar and contacts with Google Sync but not your email. Now that they've added support for Gmail you can get push Gmail to your phone.

Sprint unveils Any Mobile Anytime plan

Sprint is making a major move to try and get back all those customers they've lost recently. They have officially unveiled a new "Any Mobile Anytime" plan as an extension of their current Everything Data plan. It means Sprint users can call any mobile phone on any network in the US, and talk for as long as they want.

Gmail is down

We've become used to reliable "99% up time" from Gmail and have not experienced outages like those that plague BlackBerry devices, but today Gmail appears to be down. We've been unable to reach Gmail for awhile now and there is not much information to be had. Google’s Apps Status Dashboard shows an outage but no other details are given.
Interestingly, we've been getting emails on our Palm Pre even though we cannot reach Gmail via a web browser.
So we wait....
