News - August 09, 2011

In the past, Nokia has sold its smartphones at full price to consumers, af...read more

Is Microsoft in talks to buy Nokia's mobile division?
News - May 16, 2011
Engadget is reporting that Microsoft will enter into talks with Nokia to purchase their entire mobile division. If true, this would be a huge deal and a real game changer for Nokia. Engadget cites Eldar Murtazin as the source for the story, and says Murtazin has "not been able to dig up any further intel, but expects a deal could be closed as early as the end of this year." Mark Squires, UK Communications Director for Nokia, has issued a non-comment that seems to quash the rumor. "We typically don't comment on rumors. But we have to say th...read more

"Kris Thompson, an analyst with National Bank Financial, has bumped up his BlackBerry shipment forecasts for RIM in 2012 and 2013, partly on “customer hesitation” with Nokia as it moves away from its longstanding operating system, Symbian...read more

Smartphones outsold PCs in Q4 2010
News - February 08, 2011
For the first time in history smartphones outsold PCs for the quarter. According to IDC, 100.9 million smartphone devices were shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010, while only 92.1 million PCs were shipped worldwide. This is big news in the tech industry as PCs have always outsold smartphones in the past. As the trend towards smartphones continues to grow, the gap in these numbers should continue to increase. Apple has had a big impact on these numbers as the iPhone is quite popular. BlackBerry and Android have also weighed in, and of c...read more

Who makes the best mobile operating system? - WSJ
News - October 22, 2010
The Wall Street Journal is posing the big question to its readers as the "question of the day." The results are not surprising, but they are interesting. Google is currently leading with a whopping 59.6% of the votes going for Android. Apple is holding its own with 22.8% of the vote. Interestingly, Microsoft is even trailing Palm with a very small 2.9% of the vote. I'm guessing that number will change in the next year or so, but it's stunning that Microsoft, who used to be a major player in the handheld space, has plunged so far. If you'r...read more

News - October 18, 2010
Sprint continues to roll out its 4G service around the country. The company says New York City will get Sprint 4G on November 1, while Los Angeles will see 4G service by December 1. Poor San Francisco will get it sometime before the end of the year, but no specific date is yet known.
