Sony Ericsson Announces P900 Smartphone

Sony Ericsson has unveiled the much-anticipated update to its P800 smartphone. The P900 will be quite an improvement over its predecessor. The new device will include video recording, a 16-bit color touch screen, increased memory, all in a smaller, faster device.

The P900 will be based on Symbian OS v7.0 which already a good amount of software available for it. It will also be able to run applications written in Java.

Here are some specifications from Sony's web site:

"The Sony Ericsson P900 is a triple band mobile phone, an MP3 audio and MPEG4 video player, an advanced handheld device and a mobile video and digital camera. Wherever you are, you have phone and e-mail access to your network of contacts. Your calendar is updated. And you have every mobile messaging possibility available. Send pictures taken with the P900 built-in camera in seconds. Record a short video clip and e-mail it straight away. Text input is easy. P900 has an on-screen keyboard and a large touchscreen for your comfort. Discover the multi-tasking P900 for yourself. And let rocking MP3 music Ringtones impress others."

The P900 will have 48 MB of RAM and a faster processor. It will have a digital camera that can handle video recording. Its screen resolution will be 208 x 320 pixels.

The P900 will not be available in the U.S. until the first quarter of 2004, although it will be available in Europe and other areas sometime before then.
